Coronation Street was celebrating on Saturday evening after collecting five gongs at the 2008 British Soap Awards.
Rob James-Collier fought off stiff competition to win Sexiest Male for the second year running while Corrie newcomer Michelle Keegan won Best Newcomer for her role as troubled teenager Tina McIntyre.
Maggie Jones’ acerbic one-liners as Blanche Hunt was recognised with the Best Comedy Performance, beating co-star Katherine Kelly (Becky Grainger) and Emmerdale’s Charlie Hardwick.
It came as no surprise when Jack P Shepherd’s name was read out as Villain of the Year for his antics as David Platt. Jack was also nominated for Best Actor and Best Dramatic Performance.
Liz Dawn, who was last seen on our screens in January this year, deservedly won the Lifetime Achievement Award for her role as the legendary Vera Duckworth.
Accepting her award, she said: “I wish I was young again, I could do it all over again. It’s only when you leave that you realise what a lovely life you’ve had. It’s been fantastic.”
