This is a news story currently running in the UK in regard to a scene on Coronation Street. Please be warned of a spoiler.
That’s not political correctness, that’s biogtry.
PC should be inclusive not trying to pretend a certain segment of society doesn’t exist.
Covering up the cross was ridiculous. It’s obviously a church, so of course there would be a cross. How is it politically incorrect to have characters who are a particular religious belief?
Apparently, someone got the wrong end of the stick…. that’s the official line from the CS bosses. It sounds plausible to me, IIRC, we’ve seen lots of crosses on the show at weddings, funerals, etc.
“A member of crew knew that they were dressing the set with candles and flowers and knew this would obstruct the view of the cross. A member of church staff was asked if the cross could be moved. When she asked why they wanted it moving, she was told that Coronation Street didn’t want to cause offence to anyone when the scenes were shown. It now transpires that she took this to mean that production felt people would be offended by seeing the cross – when in fact they were concerned that the props were blocking the view of the cross.”
Really, is that explanation any better? Why would (or should) someone be offended that they didn’t have a perfect view of the cross.
