Monday March 9th 2009 – The Update

UK Time – Sunday May 24th

Kevin and Sally are angry, and you know what, I don’t blame them. The show opened with the two of them arriving at the Peacocks neither looking too pleased. Kevin and Sally confronted Claire about her “slum” remarks concerning their house. Ashley was annoyed by his wife’s behaviour and Claire was embarrassed. So she should be. Sally is so upset by the episode that she declares the deal off. I don’t think she is posturing here. Kevin and Sally leave. Claire wonders if Sally means it. Ashley is more concerned that they have lost two good friends.

Both couples retire to their corners with the men charged to talk some sense into their wives. Ashley demands that Claire apologize. Kevin tells Sally that she is cutting off her nose to spite her face. He also makes the point that I’m sure we were all thinking, Sally seems to be making decisions without consulting with Kevin.

A bit later Kevin and Ashley meet in the street and plot to get everyone together in the pub to sort it out. I guess the Newton and Riley will act as the mediator. Yes, finally someone recognizes the calming influence of beer.

They all meet in the pub and the men hope to sort it all out. Claire has made a decision. They needed some common courtesy a middle man to sort it all out. All of these shenanigans happened because Sally is a pretentious cow and Claire is a small minded busy body they didn’t involve a professional estate agent. So, Claire’s rather forceful suggestion was actually smart and she didn’t mean to stick Sally in it at all.

Over at the Old Rectory Molly is very worried about Paul’s plans to do a runner from the law. It seems that Paul believes that the law’s arms aren’t long enough to reach Australia. Molly tries to enlist Tyrone’s help in the matter, but he’s not all that interested in Paul doing the right thing. He’d rather that Paul just leave, on a jet plane or in a paddy wagon.

Molly finally gets through and she tells Jack who offers Paul 10,000 quid to go or 30,000 quid to go to jail. Jack lays the money on the table and leaves to let Paul make his own decision.

While Jack waits for Paul in the Rovers Paul gets into Lloyd’s taxi to the airport a regular Coronation street exit. If only Leanne was with him.

In Other News

Liz is getting her photos re-touched by Amy. That kid’s gotta be useful somehow. She has had a massive picture made of her wedding photo and it looks ridiculous. She has re-made Vernon to look like a slimmer Wayne Newton in a Crest commercial. She’s going to hang it over the mantle. She is not doing this out of guilt.

Clarissa is using Lloyd as a personal driver. Harry runs into her in the street and they both wonder what the point of this is.

Roger gives Ken, Deirdre and Blanche his quote. Hilarity ensues.

That was a really creepy picture! I wonder if Liz took down the one with Steve and the cross-dresser when she hung it in the bar. Those neon teeth on the tanned leathery skin are grotesque.

I don’t blame Tyrone for his feelings re. Paul; I’d want him far, far away too. Molly seems to have a soft spot for Paul and you would think she would be angry at him for letting Tyrone take the blame for his thievery. Sad to see Jack hurt when he’s so kind-hearted.

Claire’s acting like an idiot over the house deal. When she pays the agent and does the reno, they won’t be any farther ahead and the kids lose their nice backyard.

Nice one Deb! BTW where the heck is Amy?

“Liz is getting her photos re-touched by Amy”

    LOL Debbie!! 🙂

  4. Barbie says:

I LOVE Vernon’s neon teeth, I hope that picture hangs over the mantle forever. It is just too funny.
Glad to see the back of Paul, but I was a bit ticked off that he got the standard taxi exit. I didn’t think he’d been on long enough to deserve one.
Maybe Clair is going to re-birth Amy, she looks preggy enough.

  5. Jody says:

That picture of Liz and Vernon had me choking with laughter!
I thought Claire was telling Norris (about Sallys house being a slum) because she knew he would blab it to everyone and then Sally would get pissed and call it off.

  6. Bea says:

I really believe Claire is mentally ill.
    Just saying.
I loved the wedding picture. Those teeth could be seen from the space station.

  7. Gayle says:

Bea, I was thinking the exact same thing about Clair. Has Ashley no say at all, after all the house was given to him by his Dad. I can’t understand why they are in such financial trouble, Ashley was given a house, a butcher shop and a pub, where has all the money gone? I will not miss Clair at all when she goes on maternity leave.

  8. Yanyan says:

Ashley and Kevin should both RUN AWAY. Those women are insufferable. I don’t know which one irritates me more, it changes from scene to scene.

  9. corrierules says:

Barbie, Paul got the downgraded taxi exit. IIRC, the elite taxi exit is when the character rides off in a big black cab — a typical London cab. And there was no one to wave him off. Farewell Paul, here’s your hat. what’s your hurry? Don’t let the door hit you on the a** on your way out.
