Hello! How Are You!

sachs

Okay, so I’ve been reading ahead in Corrie and found out something cool.   Guess who’s going to be on Corrie?

Andrew Sachs!

Who’s Andrew Sachs some of you might ask.   Andrew Sachs is the German born actor who played Manual in Fawlty Towers….and I adore him.

Quickie Update from Last Night

As suspected, Tony was indeed NOT interested in Rosie and told her to get her clothes on while he ordered some coffee.    Rosie pouts and tells him that his precious Carla has him wrapped around her finger, to which Tony explains that Rosie isn’t worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as Carla and that she’s a stupid little girl.  A stupid unemployed little girl.

‘Oh yeah?’ quips back Rosie, ‘How’s this for stupid?’ and she shows Tony the video on her phone of  Carla and Liam kissing.   At first Tony pretends he knows, but Rosie says if he knew, why would Carla be bribing her with designer handbags.  In the end Tony has a talking to Rosie, and she is left minus her cell phone but plus her old job back and a warning to keep her trap shut.

Yes, the Mortons are really leaving.  What the HELL did become of Grandpa Morton, btw?

Yes, the money is in Janice’s fake Rosie account.  Lianne is trying to get Janice to keep her mouth.

Sally actually made a funny joke.  When Sophie says how she can’t stand the ‘corny sex  jokes’ that Sally and Kevin make, Sally responds, ‘You kids are our corny sex jokes.’.

I was shocked to find out that Sally has a sense of humour. That was a good scene with the Websters and nice to see them smile for a change. But I wonder where Rosie went.

What a mass exodus this week: Gerry and 3 kids, Vernon, Harry, now Dan. I wonder why these actors don’t stick around? Better job offers?
Danny was on an ad for Law and Order – Brit version.

Manuel and his pet mouse. Best Fawlty ever. I have to say I did not recognize him in that photo.

The actor who plays Kev said during his recent Halifax visit that the writers just couldn’t come up with a story line for Jerry. Here’s one: Jerry and Gail. Obsessive hovering parent hooks up with a guy who is vaguely-aware-he-has-some-kids-about-the-house. Massive donair eating and eyelash flapping ensues.

Forgot to say, thanks so much for the Glacia perspective. Always a pleasure to read your musings!

    • fondue123 says:

Sorry missusmac, that was no mouse Manuel had in his room. It was his “pet Siberian hamster”, otherwise known as a RAT!!!! Agree, one of the best episodes of one of the best tv comedies ever made.

      • missusmac says:

You are so right! I was just remembering the health inspector aspect of it, and immediately thought mouse. Should have remembered Basil’s horror at the sight of the rat!

  3. corrieheart says:

Glacia, you may well ask what became of Grandpa Morton (better check with Archie Shuttleworth just in case…)but I’m also wondering what on earth happened to the eldest Morton (Jodie I believe). She buzzed off to London i think but it seems no-one kept her in the loop when Jerry was in hospital (twice) or when Teresa tried to kill ol Jerr (with drugs and home cooking)or even as 3/5ths of the Morton clan now shove off to espana for good. Maybe Daryll will send her an email…

thanks for the update & the news about Andrew Sachs.

  4. haili says:

Jodie has eloped with Nicky Platt. Martin attended the wedding.

Archie Shuttleworth may have a lot to answer for.

Glacia, I too thank you and the other posters for more chuckles.

  5. Trudy says:

Finally the show is becoming a “cannot miss”. I’m loving this Tony/Rosie thing. I’m sure Janice won’t be able to keep her mouth shut for long. Dan’s departure was very weird. I was looking forward to more of Clarissa/Liz.

  6. Piper77 says:

Dan’s departure is very strange. Considering the previous scene we saw him in was Harry leaving the bookie’s in his capable hands. Suddenly we see him one day later saying that he has to sell?? Just doesn’t make any sense – maybe CBC cut a few in between scenes?

    • Modge says:

Maybe Harry’s aranging a “hit” on Clarissa and needs the dosh.

I can’t believe nobody’s mentioned Tony in the white t-shirt. I must say it’s made me look at him in a whole new light.

      • Barbee says:

I can hardly wait until Sunday morning when I catch up (Tony in a white t-shirt, and telling Rosie who she really is). I hate to see the end of Harry – always fun to have a “bad” man about to stir things up with Liz. Dan – not so much; seems pretty devoid of character. I will miss Jerry (as I missed him when he left The Royal). I, too, think Jerry and Gail would have been a good plot line to follow. And thanks for your thoughts Glacia.

  7. beanie says:

If that truly is the end of Harry then all I can say is LAME!

The Jerry send off is even worse. If he really is gone it made no sense at all.

  8. haili says:

I guess they can’t kill them all off with murders and accidents. In a way it’s nice to see them drive off; at least there’s a possibility they could come back. Maybe we’ll get some other old characters back. Peter pops in once in awhile.

Wasn’t that a quick turnaround for Liam last night? After trying to avoid Carla and dodging her passes, now he makes a pass at her!
    I wonder where Rosie went.

    • beanie says:

I thought about that haili that it’s good to leave an open door for the future but Jerry has a house and a business. He isn’t well off and packing up and moving to Spain in a heartbeat doesn’t make any sense.

Harry doesn’t really have ties (except the bookies which he is selling) and seems to have a few bob (the way his wife spends it) not that I’m happy to see him go. I really did want to see him with Liz.

  9. haili says:

Isn’t it wonderful how fast these homes and businesses sell in soap land?! Sounds like Daryl is running the kabob place for now anyway.

Dan and Leanne may be out of work, depending on who buys that business.

  10. Gayle says:

Sad to see Jerry go I really liked him. So how is Darryl supposed to manage on his own run the shop pay all the household bills? Sloppy writing in my opinion. I can think of some other characters I would like to see the back of…Gail, David, Tina and Michelle just to name a few. While I’m on a roll not missing Claire one bit and not looking forward to her return.

  11. haili says:

It feels like they wanted to get rid of a few characters and just did it the quickest way possible. Let’s hope they bring in some interesting new ones.

    • beanie says:

I realize people have to leave the show. Sometimes the actor get a better gig and sometimes a weak plotline makes a character redundant.

Sometimes the character and the actor are SSSOOOOO bad they can’t get rid of them fast enough. These are the ones that should go out with a big bang, and never darken the cobbles again.
This doesn’t apply to Jerry or Harry of course. Now Paul should have gone out with a serious bang. The character was unbelievabe, the actor stunk and what clinched it for me wa someone (whose name escapes me LOL) from this board said that Pauls whinging to Lee Ann looked like the Pop&fresh dude was bursting out of every orifice. I couldn’t even look at the dude then. They should have given him a fiery action packed death.

  12. Terri says:

    “He’s from Barcelona …” :^)

I, too, was sorry to see Harry go. Is that really all for him? Just one brief conversation with Dan about the bookies and then he’s gone?

Tony telling Rosie she was a “stoopid little gir-ul” was the soundbite of the week for me. Love that accent!

  13. corrierules says:

I was sorry to see Harry leave. It’s nice to have a character who thinks women “of a certain age” are sexy.

I found the conversation with Gerry asking Gail to keep an eye on things next door funny — in an eye-rolling way. I don’t think I would trust Gail to keep an eye on my plants, let alone my kids. Her standards as to what’s allowable for young adults and teenagers are not the highest.

  14. Tracy Emm says:

    PLEASE HELP CLARIFY!!!!
I noticed a few posts that are indicating that Dan has left the show? I’ve watched it all week, and haven’t clued into that storyline yet? Are these repeated type errors, and you are all talking about Harry Mason? As far as I’ve seen, Leanne has just offered her share of the Lotto winnings to Dan to keep the bookies afloat…

  15. haili says:

Dan said he would have to leave but now Leanne has offered to put up the money for the shop. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens but it wouldn’t surprise me if he left.

  16. haili says:

The cops are waiting to pounce on anyone withdrawing money from Rosie’s account, so surely Leanne won’t be dumb enough to try it.
It was maddening tonight when they cut away from that storyline to the randy little gopher and Joe. Now that could really get annoying!

  17. fondue123 says:

Haili, you are so right about the cops and the money, but imho, while Leanne seems to be clever, she invariably does something really shtewpid in the end. She gave Janice s**t for spending some of the money on a TV, she pointed out (correctly!) that they needed to wait. But when it suits her, she’ll withdraw 10 grand with absolute certainty that it’s ok.
And I’m also having a hard time believing the whole Harry leaving bit. So he leaves, teary good-bye with his son, and hands over the turf business. What, 3 days later, and he NEEDS to sell up RIGHT NOW!!!! WTF happened? Just shoddy writing I expect.

  18. TJ says:

What was with all the wordplay on tonights episode? The writers are getting bored? We had the “you’ve got another think coming” conversation in the middle of a sad moment at the cab office, Maria’s comment to Carla “do you think Minnie Driver drives a Mini?” and then Lloyd with his rhyming rocker names.

  19. haili says:

Mel left in a hurry last night too. It’s like the writers couldn’t wait for a major clear out of characters. I had a hard time figuring out what people were talking about last night too and missed a lot of what Tony said in the cave. It’s really quite a cat and mouse game he’s playing with Liam.

  20. Barbie says:

I always thought that these mass departures as “contract time at Corrie”. I expect to see an influx of new characters to replace them, at least that seems to be the way it happens.
I’ve been really liking Julie lately. Haven’t seen anyone that daft around since Raquel.(who I still adore and wish would return)

  21. corrierules says:

I was really sad to see Mel go. Thought the actress who played her was good.

  22. haili says:

I’m not that crazy about Julie or Auntie Pam yet but maybe they’ll grow on me. Julie acts like another Vernon when she always interrupts conversations with things that are totally unrelated to the subject – but have to do with her.

We haven’t seen much of Steve or Eileen lately and I hope that picks up soon – without too much of Michelle.
