Cultural Reference of the Day

This week, as Tyrone and Molly made their way over the Kevin and Sally’s for dinner, Molly admitting that she wasn’t looking forward to dining with “Hyacinth Bucket”.

In case you haven’t seen the show she’s talking about, the reference is from the classic BBC sit-com “Keeping Up Appearances“. Hyacinth Bucket, who insists on pronouncing it “Bouquet”, comes from a working class background, married into the somewhat upper-middle-class, and is the classic snob, ever fearful that anything she does may be perceived as “common”.

In other words, she was the model for Sally Webster.

I knew Sally reminded me of someone! Well done, John!

I missed Molly saying that. Thanks John! I’m a big fan of ‘the Bucket Woman’.

Sally is a lot like Hyacinth. I remember her visiting relatives and acting just like her. She always feels like she’s a cut above the common Corrie residents.
