Update for Thursday, February 4, 2010: I like a bit of blue pied cock.

Originally aired April 17, 2009

We open in the Rovers where Tara has just learned about Dev’s little indiscretion with Lisa.  Not that I’m in favour of infidelity, but I didn’t realize that Tara and Poppy were such good friends until Poppy told Dev that they were when he asked her to keep her trap shut.  Also, Poppy is a seasoned barmaid, and I have trouble believing that this one-night stand was the most shocking thing she’s ever seen.  I can’t really figure out why Poppy felt the need to tell Tara.  Is this another example of lazy writing where they just needed a reason to get rid of Tara?  To quote Mr. PinkLady: “Unless Poppy becomes the most prim and proper barmaid in Coronation Street’s history, this is nothing but lazy writing.”

Anyhow, Tara says she doesn’t know what she’ll do and takes the champers and 3 flutes over to the table where Dev offers a toast to Tara.

Luke is standing at the bar ordering a pint.  Tom approaches Luke and informs him that Tony has someone following Luke and to be careful.  Luke can’t imagine that Tony would do such a thing.  The very idea is ludicrous. Tom says he wouldn’t put anything past Tony, and Luke shouldn’t either.

Teresa marches into the kebab shop and appoints herself the queen bee (it’s a family business after all).  Lookit lady, just because Dev is letting you rent the flat above the shop does not make it a family business.   And she fires Minnie.  That goes over as well as a lead balloon.  Eddie Windass comes in, who is thrilled to see Teresa.  In the end, he ends up giving her a lift to her friend’s flat to pick up the rest of her stuff (for a tenner).

Luke leaves the pub and is clearly thinking about what Tom told him.  There are many people who don’t live on Coronation Street present as he strolls along the cobbles, and every one of them gets a suspicious look.

Jack is having tea with Connie (who returned his cherished pigeon).  Connie comes from Middleton and is a widow.  Tyrone and Molly enter and meet Connie.  Jack offers to take Connie out back to show him his blue pied cock!  I’m hoping that’s a pigeon.

Tara, Dev and Lisa arrive at the flat.  Tara is determined to keep Lisa around as long as possible and insists they have a snack.  Tara gives Lisa a tour and shows her the bedroom.  “It’s a lovely big bed, isn’t it?”, says Tara.  The 3 of them are sitting in the living room very awkwardly.  Tara sends Dev to the shop for coffee.  While Dev is out, Tara shows Lisa her office (where creepy Uncle Umed is staying) and says “The office had more rubbish when you were here a couple of weeks ago, when you slept with Dev.”  Oh, SNAP!  Lisa says that she didn’t know that Dev was with Tara and it was only for 1 night.  Lisa thought Dev was a free agent (so did Dev!) and she wanted to see him again.  Tara says she’s been humiliated and throws Lisa out and orders her NOT to contact her or Dev ever again.

We cut to the Barlows where Ken is prepping dinner.  “Don’t cut them too thin.  They’ll go all floppy when you cook them”, says Blanche.  Peter and Deirdre return from their visit with Tracey and Peter asks where Simon is (he was home sick today).  Blanche says that he’s cleaning his room and she’s offered him 50p for it.  Deirdre says that Tracey would like to see Amy, but Blanche says that she’s forfeited any right to see Amy.  Ken thinks that Amy should be older before going to her majesty’s big house to visit Mummy.  Peter says that honesty early on is important (and shoots a look at Ken).  With that, Simon (the cutest little boy on tv) comes down wearing rubber gloves with a feather duster and puts his hand out to Blanche for his 50p!

Dev comes back to the flat and Tara tells him that Lisa had to go check on a friend.  “Lisa can never turn her back on a friend.  She’s the nicest person I know.”, says Tara.  Dev tries to bed Tara (yuck!), but Tara tells him to clean out her office while she goes to the gallery.

Ashley and Josh are playing footie  in the street and Claire says she misses the garden.  Claire gives it a shot and kicks the ball through the Barlows’ front room window!  The funniest part about it is that she’s run off by the time the Barlows are outside!

Luke’s paranoia builds and he literally runs into Dev who is taking out the trash.  He sees the Tony mask (from Tony’s stag do) and keeps it.

Tara is in the pub with Poppy (not the gallery).  Tara doesn’t know if Lisa is telling the truth and tells Poppy that Dev’s lied before (like having an affair with her mother).  She’s going to give him 1 more chance.

Ken and Deirdre have cleaned up the broken glass.  Blanche is afraid that someone is going to climb through the window in the night.  If that happens, my money’s on Blanche, not the burglar!  They assume the Josh broke the window and Ken thinks the cost of the window should be deducted from Josh’s spends.  If they only knew the truth.  Maybe they could get free meat in lieu of the window.  Peter and Blanche disappear and Ken and Deirdre have time together.  Ken wants to watch a documentary so Deirdre says she would rather be at the pub.  Ken says she can watch whatever she wants (but you can tell he doesn’t really mean it).

We finish in Dev’s flat. Tara tells Dev that she’s glad they got back together and she confesses to him that she never intended to leave.  Dev says it’s ok.  When Tara asks him how he coped while she was gone, he said all he needed was a box of kleenex and hoped she would come back.  As the camera closes in on Tara, we see her plotting her revenge.

I agree that Poppy telling Tara about Lisa was sloppy writing and there was no inkling that I can remember that Poppy and Tara were friends.

It also seems unrealistic that Dev would not only rent to Theresa and Darryl but let her work in the kabob shop. Is he hoping Theresa will turn Amber off Darryl?

  2. beanie says:

WTF is a blue pied cock anyway? If you said that in Canada you could expect a slap!

  3. haili says:

Jack did explain to Ty and Molly that it’s a pigeon. It would be good if he makes friends with that lady and we get to see him more often. Some of the best times on Corrie were with him and V.

  4. beanie says:

Bette Lynch used to use ‘cock’ as a term of endearment usually to a younger man. I don’t recall Scottish people saying it but they use ‘hen’ as a term of endearment to a younger woman.

  5. TracyEmm says:

How about last night with Luke waving to the private investigator! LMAO!!!

    🙂

  6. corrierules says:

Just finished watching last week’s episodes
    1. Do not like Joe.. he is an ill-tempered unappreciative git.

    2. This “partnership” with Kevin and Tyrone… Kevin has really gotten the short end of this deal. Mr and Mrs. Dobbs have not invested one red cent and yet now Ty is an equal partner? He got this partnership just by sticking around… Kevin is just rolling over and playing dead as far as Molly is concerned.

    3. Love the Barlows. My heart dropped just a little bit when Blanche talked about no longer being around. 😦

    4. Haili… yes, more Jack, please.

    5. Tom,Maria,Tony, Luke … zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

    6. Tara is one spoiled little brat… she actually called Dev a cheapskate this week. He’s set her up in business and she spends his money like water. Okay so he’s a two-timing, self-absorbed, horndog — but hey, he’s not cheap.

    • Bea says:

      1. Totally agree about Joe. Gail is living up to her record of chosing men who she should run from.

2.I think Kevin does owe Tyrone something (maybe not equal partnership). Tyrone accepted the offer of partnership in lieu of pay when Kev couldn’t pay him. So the pay that Ty gave up would be a small amount toward his share. (not half, though).

      3. Barlows-it almost seemed that Blanch sort of knew, I don’t know. Sad

4.I hope Jack and this new lady get
together. She seems perfect for him.

5.Tom, Maria, Tony, Luke zzzzzzzzzzz Oh, you said that. Sorry

6.I can’t believe that Tara and Dev have lived together for 3 months, and she has taken over his flat, his spare room and everything. Dev is so stupid. But of course it is a match made in heaven. She loves his wallet and he is a two-timing, self-absorbed horndog.

    • TracyEmm says:

Blanche = I know! I feel sad everytime I see her in a scene… it was the same with Audrey’s husband Alf Roberts. He died in the show of a heart attack (so he could retire in real life) and then died of a heart attack not soon into his retirement. So sad… I remember watching the scenes of him passing away in the chair at Gails house.

  7. Gayle says:

I agree with those who don’t like Joe. What a loser! Even his daughter has no respect for him. I don’t get what Gail sees in him!

Does Tina not work at the Kabob Shop any longer?

I can’t get over the nerve of Teresa waltzing into the shop and helping herself to the till! Dev owns the shop she has no right to be there at all.

Hopefully we’ll soon be seeing the back of Tara for someone who is supposed to be well educated she acts like a spoilt 12 year old.

  8. missusmac says:

Most ironic is that Tara is the one who feels used!

Gail must really fear being alone, or have a severe lack of self-confidence, to put up with that crap from Joe.

  9. Tara’s got too much face for too small a head. 😉 Also, how much of a princess is she?! She’s been treating Dev like an open wallet ever since they got back together.

Poppy is terribly unprofessional — I thought bar staff were supposed to see all and say nowt? There’s some friction between her and Betty, so I suppose her blabbing to little miss frogmouth further shows how she’s getting a bit above herself; I understand Steve is going to chuck P. out soon, for dissing the venerable Betty?

  10. haili says:

Yes, she is a Bratz! I just wonder how she’s going to use those naughty photographs of Dev.

I just loved Betty’s expressions tonight when she she saw Jack and Connie. She can say so much more with a look and a few words than anyone else – and be funnier.

    • TracyEmm says:

I actually enjoyed the ending with Tony and Luke. I actually found myself rooting for Tony to wipe the smile off Lukes face! (how crazy, I must remember he’s a murderer!)

and yes, Betty’s expression was fab! Especially someone of her time (old school) who probably thinks it is way too soon for Jack to be entertaining ideas of another woman…

  11. TracyEmm says:

    Help!
Can anyone tell me why Maria is ripping all the wallpaper down in her house? (and doing it in a very odd/unproductive manner). I must have missed something, as I haven’t a clue what it is all supposed to mean? She’s going crazy again and has taken to peeling paper?

Please respond, if you can. Thx!

    • TracyEmm says:

oh, I almost forgot: Tracy ???
Are we being brushed up for a possible return of Tracy Barlow? I would love it; she was great. Too bad they had to send her off to jail for murder – she could be a great match for Luke (who I’m feeling is going to need a leading lady soon in order for his character to keep interest in the show) (in my humble opinion, that is…)

  12. haili says:

I keep forgetting Tony’s a murderer too. He’s just so much fun to watch and the most interesting man on the street these days.

How could they bring back Tracy? She is supposed to be serving time for murder which should be life – however long that is. They could have scenes in the jail and have her plotting with someone who visits, but for what? I think she’s better off where she is – and out of the picture.

I agree; Joe is useless and Gail should dump him – but knowing Gail, she won’t.

  13. Gayle says:

Maria seems to be starting up again with the crazy behaviour. She didn’t want to go for her ultra-sound because she had no one to accompany her? What about Michelle who lives with her, her brother, her supposedly best friend Fiz?

I was wondering too what’s up with the half torn off wallpaper. Why would a single woman large with child take on that job? I have stripped wallpaper many times and it is a very time consuming hard job. Can’t Kirk do it for her, he’s unemployed.

I also can’t wait to see the back of Tara what an annoying character. All she does is slurp champaign and was certainly showing a lot of clevage last night!

    • chumola says:

I second the sentiment about Tara. She should grow up and leave home, for good!

      • Barbee says:

I third it. Bratz says it all. I haven’t seen the latest episode, but am looking forward to Betty on Sunday. I won’t be sad to see the back of Poppy either – although if her loose lips sink the Tara ship, good on her. Gail is nuts, isn’t she? I think Tony is one of the most gorgeous man (despite the eyeball) ever to grace the cobbles. Too bad he’s a psychopath!
