Update for Wednesday, Mar. 3: Short ‘n’ Sweet

It is morning, and Norris confesses to Emily that Mary spent most of the previous night puttin’ the moves on him somethin’ fierce.

He says he had to fight his way out of the motorhome, barely escaping with his chastity. He is fearful that on the open road he would be easy prey and be shagged like a rag doll from Liverpool to Argentina. Norris realizes he must make his stance on things clear. Emily encourages him to do it sooner rather than later.

A fairly quiet start to the day as Colin sits quietly at Eileen’s. Jason is looking through the yellow pages for care facilities that might have vacancies for Colin. Eileen says she’s not about to cave in and have him remain there.

Maria comes into Fiz’s to ask if Chesney can take Ozzy for his walk as she’s feeling somewhat poorly and pregnant. She sees she is interrupting lessons and apologizes. Fiz makes tea and confesses she has an afternoon appointment with a “teacher” who is helping with the schooling. Maria notices Fiz has tarted herself up a bit and is acting quite coy. She swiftly deduces that Fiz has the hots for her scholastic helper but for some reason can’t follow the bouncing ball back to Mr. Stape.

Mary is sitting in Roy’s, lost in thought when Norris enters. He asks to join her, saying he has something difficult to tell her. He fumbles through his ‘I’m just not that into you’ kiss-off as Mary looks pained. She is gracious however about understanding that they are different, and they part amicably. Mary thanks Norris for giving her the confidence to make her dreams a reality. She promises to keep in touch.

Norris waves her off and the motorhome goes shambling off down Coronation St. to serve kiwi blini’s in parts unknown. Eileen and Emily approach and Norris fills them in, saying he did have a twinge of regret. “Life will have passed me by again, and who can blame it.”

In Roy’s, Umed is buying a sandwich from Anna and notices Amber hiding behind a magazine. Umed asks if Amber has forgiven her father yet. Amber explains that she’s pissed at Dev for messing everything up, and this time the humiliation spills onto her as well. Umed asks, if her pride is hurt, can she imagine how Dev feels?

Eileen stops by the Kabin to give Rita a heads-up that Colin is at hers, and Rita may call in if she wants.

Later, a thin, spectacled little man comes into the Kabin looking for Norris. RIta explains that he should be back later, but the man walks out as she is asking if she can take a message. Norris returns and and announces to Rita that he’s waved Mary off but doesn’t want to talk about it. So it’s to be business as usual.

Connie has turned up at Jack’s. She tells Jack that she has a chance to borrow a mate’s villa in Spain and can bring a friend. She invites Jack, strictly as companions of course – seperate rooms, etc. Jack thinks Molly and Tyrone are going to hate the idea but he wants to go so he accepts.

Rita comes to see Colin, but not to make nice –  she still wants none of him. Colin drones on for a few minutes about how he has been made a social pariah for his one mistake, and we all make mistakes. Again.

Later, Rita hooks up with Emily in the Rovers. Norris comes to join them. The thin, spectacled little man comes in and has a quiet but heated exchange with Norris, who asks him why he is there, and tells him to leave….It is apparently Norris’ brother Ramsay. And there is very bad blood between them.

Amber comes to see Dev at his apartment and patch things up. She apologizes to Dev for having a go at him and says sorry she wasn’t more supportive and that she will come back home. Dev has apparently put the gallery up for sale. (All I keep hearing in my head is Bratz Tara going, “You really hoot me, Dev.”

So very glad to see the back of Tara! What a spoilt brat!

    • TracyEmm says:

Me too! Isn’t it wonderful that she’s gone? I certainly hope she won’t be back. I thought her mother was bad, but my goodness – Tara was worse!
Now if we can just get rid of Uncle Umed… I can barely understand a word he mumbles…
I think Dev should just concentrate on Amber and keep away from the ladies for a while! I hope Amber isn’t leaving the show with all this upcoming university talk!

      • missusmac says:

Not gonna miss Tara. Loved that Dev did not get the Friends’ reference, just showed the difference in their ages.

Wouldn’t it be great if Dev had a grown up relationship?

  2. haili says:

    Amen to that!

I still wonder how the folks at Eileen’s are managing to look after Colin when he can’t even button his shirt. Are they taking shifts? Do they haul him upstairs to the bathroom, or is there one outside? Where does he sleep?

Why can’t Jack have a talk with Tyrone when he used to be so good at talking to him? I guess we’ll have to keep tuning in to find out.

  3. Cayenne says:

I’m also happy Tara has left and even more pleased that Dev is not chasing her, trying to win her back, as per Dev’s usual ways.

Regarding Norris and his brother, fair enough they had a falling out and there is bad blood but come on, 50 years and you’re still THAT angry? How can whatever it is he did still be that fresh and warrant that much anger and hatred after 50 YEARS?! (unless his brother was Earl Jones the 2nd but even then, writers, it’s been 50 years!)

And Haili, yes, who is actually bathing Colin…?

    • Bea says:

Euuuu, I hadn’t thought of that (who’s bathing Colin) Don’t want to think about it.
I am sorry that Mary is gone. She had a great send off, though, in her camper. Almost as good as the taxi exits that the long standing stars usually get.
      Also, Tyrone should grow up.

      • missusmac says:

Bea, I don’t think about Colin at all either. Lalalalalalalala, fingers in ears when he speaks.

  4. haili says:

Jack and Tyrone need to have a heart to heart talk like they used to. Tyrone needs to grow up and Jack should tell him that. But this is Corrie and no-one ever tells the truth; then it all comes out and leads to hard feelings.

  5. Gayle says:

    Haili you are so right!

  6. tmb says:

The actor who plays Uncle Umed was in the movie Run Fat Boy Run with Simon Pegg. Since I saw a rerun of this movie two weeks ago I actually like Uncle Umed a little more:)

    • Bea says:

I like him, too. He is hard to understand, but he has a wisdom about him. He isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. He is almost a male Blanch.

    • Modge says:

Once I accepted the fact that Uncle Umed is there for comedic effect, I’ve found him much less irritating – even more than tolerable at times.

      • Barbee says:

I’m warming to him as well. I think partly because he was so anti-Tara! (her mouth is too wide – my thoughts exactly) He was also in an episode of The Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency on HBO.

  7. eila says:

I found the whole Tara and Dev storyline utterly unbelievable. I couldn’t believe that she’d go anywhere near him– other than to do physical damage– once she found out he’d been sleeping with her mother. I thought their relationship was basically a limbo contest in stupidity.

I’m still not sure who won….
