We open on the cobbles where Sally and Sophie are arguing over the need for a cab into town (to have dinner with Ben’s parents). Sophie doesn’t see why they can’t drive and Sally points out that she may want a drink. Kevin lags behind and is rather sullen.
Cut to the cab office where Eileen is summoning Steve to take the Websters and Ben into town. Steve wonders why they cannot drive in. While waiting, Kevin’s lip is dragging on the floor. Sally notices and asks him what’s wrong. He says he’s musing, which Sally hears as “amusing”. After that misunderstanding is cleared up, Sally asks him what he’s thinking about. At first Kevin says he’s not really thinking of anything. Then he says he’s trying to remember as many swimmers as possible. Really? That’s the best he could come up with? Kevin, desperate to get out of there and let Molly know that he’s too busy to get laid stuck with his family that night, says he needs to check on the garage because Tyrone has “gone to the dogs” (literally, not that he sucks at his job). That doesn’t fly too well. Then Kevin realizes that he left his mobile at home. I have a sneaky suspicion that Kevin’s going to be leaving things behind a lot in the coming weeks/months. Since he’s going anyway, Sally asks him to fetch her fushia lipstick from her mauve make up case.
Molly, who’s wearing one of Leanne’s dresses from her hooking days, is lighting candles and has wine out and soft music playing. Quite a 180 degree change in behaviour since she slapped Kevin on the face not that long ago. Molly hears a knock at the door and rushes, assuming it is Kevin. Wrong, it’s Tyrone, who forgot his key. He notices that she’s done up to the nines and asks if she is feeling better. She says yes and has been waiting for him to get home. He pours out some wine. He tells the “going to the dogs” joke as well. Ty suggests that he pop around to Dev’s to get a second bottle of wine for them. Perhaps they could have a night in and what, what Kevin calls “a no pajama night”. I’m sure that’s what Kevin had in mind exactly! Before leaving to get the wine, Ty admits to being hard on Connie, but he asks Molly to never go off with anyone else if he dies first. Are the writers trying to make Tyrone seem as useless and despicable as possible so the viewers fall for this silly, awkward affair between Kevin and Molly? Tyrone’s a dolt, but this affair is ridiculous and is so forced.
There’s another knock at Molly’s door, and this time it’s Kevin. He pushes his way in and Molly exclaims that Ty is back. She tries to get him out the back door, all the while, Kevin is asking if the lipstick in his hand is mauve or fushia. Oy gevalt! Ty’s at the front door and the back door’s lock is jammed. Of course, Kevin gets out just in the nick of time. The writers couldn’t allow this affair to be busted open yet. Tyrone comes into the salon and Molly suggests they have a drink. “Do I ever need it,” Molly exclaims.
It’s later in the evening and the Websters crawl out of Eddie Windass’ cab. Sophie is accusing Sally of being drunk. Hearing the row, Eddie asks Kevin “Where would we be without our better half?” and Kevin looks even more miserable. He looks longingly at Molly’s door before he sulks home. We cut to Molly’s house where Tyrone has passed out on the settee. Molly blows out the candles and looks rather down.
What are little boys made of?
Maria is at the hospital and seems much more comfortable than she did on the beach. She has a lot of visitors there, including Audrey, Fizz, Kirk and Natasha (as well as Tony). They all ask who the baby looks like, and it is concluded that he looks like his daddy. Scorch – Tony! Kirk is holding a balloon that says “It’s a girl!” “It’s the only one they had left” Kirk says. Oh Kirkey…Tony leaves the room to see if the nurse has any vases.
Maria says that birthing on the beach reminded her of the poem Footprints but she felt safe and comforted since Tony was there. Fizz and Audrey exchange looks. The nurse comes in with one vase (for the 30 bunches of flowers in the room) and Tony comes in with the biggest bunch of flowers of all. Awwwwwwwwww…..
Later, they start talking about baby names. Maria says she likes the name Jack, but she’d be worried that the baby might turn out to be like Jack Duckworth! Kirk suggests that the baby have an initial for a name, like H, Q or W. Tony suggests the name Robert and then Natasha says she has a niece named Electra. With that, Tony suggests that the should all leave. They arrange to pick up Ozzy on the way home.
Jason and Tina are at his place (rather, Eileen’s place) and Jason is looking outside for David. He’s worried that David will pop up. Tina says she’ll tell David about her and Jason tomorrow.
Tina starts talking to Jason about renos and wonders why he has never bought a house just to fix it up. She suggests that they get a mortgage and do that together, as a business venture. A bit hasty, no? Jason is clearly feeling the noose tighten around his neck and says that it’s not easy to get a mortgage. Tina points out that they both have jobs, so it shouldn’t be that hard. Jason tells her to steady on. Clearly this is moving too fast for our Jason. Tina points out that she’s looking to make money, not a love nest. Phew!
Ramsey is having a drink in the pub with Emily and Norris. He’s about to head back to Australia and Emily tries to persuade him to stay.
Eileen, Jesse and Sean are chatting at the bar.
Eddie proposes to Anna (I thought they were married). She says no, because apparently Eddie proposes to her everytime something goes wrong (like when Gary was inside the last time and when her mum died). Charming.
