Update for Tuesday May the Fourth Be With You Quickie Edition

Clurr and Ashleh

So Claire and Ashley are fighting over this garden/holiday thing and have come to a sort of impasse over which one they’ll choose. At the butcher’s, a discussion with Graeme has Ashley feeling a bit emasculated so he decides to take a guy’s night in the Rovers on Lloyd’s suggestion.

Then he gets mad at Claire for buying Josh a pair of £40 trainers. He then tells her he’s going out for a curry and a pint with Lloyd but she reminds him that they were going to her mother’s that night. He relays this change of plans to Lloyd and Peter, telling them he can meet them for a pint between 6 and 8 pm, which earns him no small amount of grief from his friends. But, to his credit, he points out that as a dad and husband he has people who count on him and he can’t drop everything for a night of drinking.

Well, that lasts about five minutes as in the Rovers, he gets sloshed over a game of darts and starts ignoring Claire’s phone calls. She finds him in the pub and gives him hell over this and his other behaviours recently and tells him not to come home.

Betty notes that this reminds her of classic Jack and Vera except Jack fought back.

And this also happened:

Manuel (I know he’s Ramsay but he’ll always be Manuel to me) wants to help Norris and his bunion so he buys some expensive sneakers but asks Rita to pretend they were a gift from her. Otherwise, he’d never accept them.

Ben and Sophie broke up. Adding insult to injury, he notes that her entire behaviour, including her faith, is just an attempt to differentiate herself from Rosie.

Fizz confided in Natasha that she’s getting married in prison.

Jack’s pigeon Scarlet hasn’t come home. He asks Connie if she went to her place and asks if they go out to check. Connie evades the subject, but Jack presses on. He wants to see where she lives as it’s suddenly become something of  a mystery.

The best part of the Claire/Ashley squabble plot is more Graham screen time. He is a classic character, I never know what is going to come out of his mouth! Imagine he and Julie in the same room. What conversations would ensue…

I can’t figure out why Claire would suddenly start badmouthing meat, and spending money wastefully. It’s another big turn-around for a character.

I never did figure out how Graham got covered with blood when he came out with the bloody cleaver. Surely they don’t butcher the animals in the back of the shop. It still seems strange that Ashley hired him in the first place instead of taking Kirk back.

On the plus side, Ty and Molly will be away for a couple of weeks and there will be no more goo goo eyes for awhile between her and Kevin. Things have been a bit dull on the street lately.

    • Terri says:

As far as Ashleh hiring Kirk back, who’d you rather be stuck with in a shop all day for conversation: Kirk or Graeme? 🙂

Graeme slipped and fell onto the floor, which had blood on it from some sausage making – I think

  4. haili says:

Thanks for the info. Who knew sausage making was such a bloody pursuit?! Sometimes lately it’s been hard to catch all the dialogue.

    • Barbie says:

No kidding, between Sophie and her friends and that horrible uncle Umed, it’s hard to figure out what’s going on. And speaking of uncle Umed, just when is he going home? I still can’t stand him.

I’ve been wandering that about Ramsey. I don’t dislike him, I just don’t know why he’s been hanging around so long with no action on that plot line.

Good to see Theresa the other day, even if it was egging Fizz on to smack Rosie’s car. There’s a character that could handle a meaty plotline.

  5. TracyEmm says:

I’d say we’re stuck in a “Tony-Gordon-Anti-Climax” storyline! (At least we had a bit of an exciting ending to the show last night)

  6. haili says:

Some characters don’t seem to have any reason for being there: Ramsay, Tom, Uncle Umed come to mind. Corrie always seems to go into the doldrums during the summer and I think what we’re watching was filmed in July. It usually picks up about September so it should be good again in a couple of months.

  7. Jody says:

I find anything to do with Claire and Ashley is not even going to be worth watching so I don’t mind if I miss a few episodes!

  8. haili says:

After all Kevin and Molly stuff, even the Peacocks seemed interesting. That Josh is growing up fast.

  9. Gayle says:

I know its only a soap but I was thinking last night when Eileen said Claire’s Mum was looking after Freddie wouldn’t she also come and see her daughter in the hospital?

    • Bea says:

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. If it was my daughter, I would want to be there.

      • TracyEmm says:

I was thinking the same thing! It would have been much better to say that Dierdre or even Kevin/Sally were looking after Freddie…
        I know it’s a soap – but that wasn’t well thought-out…

    • Jody says:

Me too! I thought no way would Claire’s Mum (or any mum for that matter) that loved their child would stay away if they were deathly ill in hospital. How ridiculous!

  10. S. Poole says:

Only a nutter like Graeme would have a nickname for his cleaver. Choppy! =)
