Obscure Football Reference Of The Day

The other day Tyrone, Ryan and Kev made mention that they were going to watch Escape To Victory, a classic B movie starring Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine, Max von Sydow, and Pele, of all people. The basic premise is the prisoners in WWII german POW camp play the guards in a game of football. (aka soccer) The plan is to make an escape at half time, but realizing that might beat the big bad Germans, they decide to postpone the escape, and end up losing after some sneaky shenanigans. Stallone is awful but the movie is quite entertaining. In North America it was titled Esacpe .

Again, like the plotline that had all the men on the street getting new shirts for Christmas, I’m a big sucker for plots like this. Everyone is either talking about, or getting ready to watch, this movie. 🙂 It’s one of those shared moments or conversations that people have in real life, but it becomes almost an inside joke for the audience too.
