Obscure Historical Reference of the Day

While having a chat in the Platt kitchen, Gary and David make reference to the Desert Rats, a nickname given to the 7th British Armoured Division during the second Word War, when they battled the Deutsche Afrika Korps in North Africa. The Afrika Korps were led by Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, who was known as the Desert Fox, just to confuse things. There was also a bad movie made in the 1950’s with the title The Desert Rats, starring Richard Burton.

    Hilda Ogden had a cat named Rommel. I think it adopted her, not sure if she picked the name. (anyone know?)
