Obscure Football Reference of the Day

The other day in the butcher shop Graeme tried to offer David the right hand of friendship, asking David to ‘not make me John Terry to your Wayne Bridge.’ What Graeme is referring to is the awkward love triangle between the former Chelsea and England team mates and french underwear model Vanessa Perroncel. (why are underwear models so often french?) The supposedly happily married Terry had a fling with Perroncel, the mother of the child of Bridge, which is a footballer no-no, even though Bridge and Perroncel were no longer together.
The next time the two men met, Bridge snubbed Terry in the pre-game handshake, which showed a bit of panache. Bridge then decided to not play for England in the World Cup in South Africa, for various and sundry reasons, none of which made any sense to anyone who follows the game. If your country asks you to represent them in the World Cup, you put aside your petty squabbles and go. Idiot.
The smurfman gives Bridge two thumbs up for snubbing Terry, but he gets two thumbs down for not going to South Africa.
Terry lost the captaincy of the England side for the World Cup for his indiscretions, but was recently re-instated in the role. Also an idiot.

There’s a great article tonight in the Toronto Star (April 19) about the other Royal Wedding. Roy and Hailey Cropper.
