Update for Tuesday, October 11, 2011. Eileen Grimshaw is the 99%

Corrie standard time: January 21, 2011 (8.5 months behind)

Eileen needs a new roof. She should call the landlord. Oh, wait. She bought the place so that’s her now. Insurance won’t pay, and bank won’t give her a loan and when she goes to Owen, he refuses to take on the work when she tells him she can’t pay the full amount up front.

So when Carla comes in with a £10,000 cheque for Owen’s work at the factory, Eileen tells her to leave the name blank and proceeds to write “Eileen Grimshaw” right on there and deposits it. Then when Owen hears that she took care of Carla’s payment he has a change of heart and agrees to fix her roof and she can pay him back as she can.

So what’s she gonna do when Owen finds out about the cheque?

Gary’s making good progress on his physio and his relationship with Izzy so it all goes pear shaped when he goes out on the lash with David Platt. Questioned by two PCs about some crimes in the area, David behaves like an arse, Gary loses his temper and gets thrown in the police van where his PTSD kicks in again.

After being caught drinking by a heartbreaking Simon, Peter tells Nick no more booze. Nick wonders how he’s going to drive a wedge between him and Leanne now.

So Janice … has a new boyfriend and he’s Dominic Coleman, formerly of a bunch of British comedies that I used to watch from time to time? Yeah, anyway they’re off to Spain until Janice gets kicked off the plane for being too drunk. When she gets back, Chris’s friend, Shane McGowan (I don’t know if that’s his name. That’s just what I call him) knocks her over as he finishes burgling her flat. I missed a bunch of episodes. Why is he doing this? Something to do with revenge against Lloyd?

Michelle and Ciaran break up over her business dinner with Frank Foster, the new guy on the scene at Underworld. Ciaran’s off to work on a cruise ship.

Jason and Rosie went to a 3-D movie. Jason borrowed Sean’s 3-D glasses and Rosie borrowed his regular sunglasses. She just thought the movie was really dark.

Did anyone else wonder why an insurance adjuster came after dark and acted like a peeping tom? Or why Jason didn’t do the work on weekends? Why is Eileen acting out of character lately and stealing? Maybe she’s going to become another nasty character. You never know what these writers are up to; the characters are getting meaner lately IMO.

I guess Rosie thought it was film noir they went to see.

So Chris’s crooked buddy got the wrong house? Janice can’t get a break.

It seemed odd that Gary and David are now buddies.

A film noir… hahahahaha! Witty. You could write for Corrie, the plots are getting very dark right now and I am missing the light lines that are gold on this show.

I am really unhappy that Eileen is being made into a common thief. Didn’t she already misappropriate some money from Owen’s business a few weeks or months ago? No doubt Owen will be looking for the $10k before the check clears in 6 days.

Yes, I think the insurance guy deserved exactly what he got. Too bad they couldn’t use his behavior for leverage, e.g., threaten to call the cops unless he recommended they get money from the company.

I’d like to see Nick get some serious comeuppance and will be disgusted if Leanne ends up with him. I’d be happy to see Nick and Chris sharing a cell.

Having Tracy back is only a detractor to me re: interest in CS – Dee-drah needs to wake up.

I keep hoping someone will confront Tyrone – baby Jack is named after the man who was able to love Tyrone like (more than) his own son. I know there is additional baggage re: betrayal by Molly and Kevin but wasn’t there some bonding there with the baby? I can’t see Ty holding the baby responsible and just dumping him as a punishment/burden for Kevin.
Who does Ty want to emulate? His own bio parents or Jack and Vera?

I often wonder if the writers are new and have a limited historical perspective.

Loved Rosie and the sunglasses – perfect!

Everybody caught pilfering funds say they INTENDED to pay it back.

  4. Gayle says:

What’s happening to Janice? She has never had any class but screeching at Lloyd and Steve? Cackling like an old hen.

How can Leeanne, Simon and Peter possibly share that tiny apartment with Janice.

And Leeanne goes around with a miserable face all of the time is she sorry she married Peter.

  5. missusmac says:

I don’t like that Eileen is now a common thief. A plot where she would have come with up some ideas how to make the money — i.e. a boot sale, having Jason pose for a calendar, etc.,would make more sense given her character. But outright stealing $10,000, too over the top.
Funny, I do like Rosie and Jason together. They suit each other. Still hating on Owen. Jerk.

  6. haili says:

I don’t think there’s much to choose between Nick and Peter but it seems that Leanne still loves Nick and Peter not so much. She seems more concerned about leaving Simon and would feel pretty low if she left Peter now that he’s been injured.

It did seem out of character for Eileen to take the money but it was fun watching her and Julie in action getting out of the situation!

I don’t mind Rosie and Jason together either and can’t stand Owen. Now if only someone would get even with Chris it would be great.

Just heard some very sad news. Beloved Betty Driver has died after six weeks in hospital. She will be missed.

    News story:

  8. S. Poole says:

Was wondering which of the two had the real 3D glasses, could have been a funny line either way.

Loved the Julie and Eileen action team, who needs men in black.

Sally has been getting some great lines, “Oh do what you want Kevin, its what you do best!”, so perfect.

  9. beanie says:

OMG I just read that Betty Driver died last night. She was 91, the good ones always die young. RIP Betty

  10. CBC has removed Oct 12. Can someone recap for me please. Especially what happened to John. Thank You.

    • John says:

Cynn, This site has a pretty good recap of the daily episodes, scroll down to January 24, which I believe is when the CBC October 12 video aired, and it should all be there. Hope that helps.
