Betty Driver

“The worst things are, the more important it is to put a smile on your face”

-Betty Williams, after the tram crash, December 13, 2010

Very sad news here at Corrie Canuck with the news that Betty Driver, who played Betty Williams on Corrie for almost 50 years, has passed away at age 91.

Betty was a child actress who had an established acting career before joining Coronation Street in 1969. She originally auditioned for the role of Hilda Ogden. Famous for her hotpot, she herself never ate it as Williams was a vegetarian.

The link to the BBC story has a video which features her singing when she was a teen. Amazing that she was in show business for 80 years.

The street won’t be the same without her.
