Obscure Football Reference of the Day

This is a bit late due to the smurfman watching the street via the CBC website these days…

The night after Becky goes out on her night of revenge, she tells Steve that she spent the night with Steven Gerrard (MBE), captain of the Liverpool soccer club, and sometime captain of the English national side. That he would spend the night with Becky is highly unlikely in my humble opinion. Besides being one of the great English footballers, he is actually a decent guy with a untarnished reputation as a family man.

I think the reference was to Wayne Rooney , and not to Stevie G . Rooney plays for my beloved Man United , so might well be out on the town in Manchester . Gerrard plays for Liverpool .

Shin married Graham so she could stay in England, right? Now she’s accepted a job in Edenborough. Pardon me, but isn’t Edenborough in a whole other country?

ps I hope I spelled that correctly.

I just watched that bit of the episode again, it was a Steven Gerrard look alike that Becky mentions when she returns wearing her pink hat

While we’re nit-picking, it’s pronounced “borough” (like burrow) but it’s spelled EdinBURGH. As for its “whole other country” status, it’s considered part of Britain, unless you’re actually in Scotland, where “Home Rule” is still being lobbied/argued/battled/fought for.

    Who’s “nit-picking”?
But thanks for the “Edinburgh/Edinborough” correction!

Oh, so it’s like Quebec. Part of us, but don’t want to be. ps thanx for the spelling correction. My spell checker was having a kitten fit trying to figure it out. lol
