Update for the Week Ending March 9, 2012

Well, folks this was the week that Lloyd finally figured out that Chris had actually recovered from his tumour. What he didn’t expect was for Chris to gloatingly tell Lloyd that he and Cheryl were back together. This led to much weeping and bro-hugging from Steve.

Chesney had the worst week of his life this week. First, his incarcerated sister made him arrange the funeral of her murderous, lying late husband. Second, the Weatherfield Council sent them an eviction notice on super fancy letterhead. Thirdly, poor Schmeichel got cancer of the liver so Chesney spent what little money they had on tests. And when Owen lent them money to cover the rent, he almost spent that too. But he was left with the decision: does he take the chance that an operation will save Schmeichel or does he simply end his suffering then and there, and continue to have a home for Katy and his baby-to-be. It looks like Chesney will be making yet another tough decision.

Also, writers? Kirk knows dogs. It’s the one thing he does know. He could have been more knowledgeable to help Chesney with this.

I do know one thing: Monday is going to be a full ice cream tub kind of day.

And John’s funeral was this week. Sally went and ruined it on the grounds that he didn’t deserve a proper funeral but then she regretted later to Frank.

“I know what it’s like,” he told her. “Once you start it’s hard to stop. And by that, I mean, ruining your enemy’s funeral and not, in any way, rape.”

Frank almost managed to bring down Underworld but Michelle and Ciaran returned from their working cruise. In about 5 minutes, Michelle managed to poach back most of the workers from Underworld, take over the factory (with Nick’s help), send Carla off to LA to visit friends, and get Ciaran to plan their wedding.

Rosie sold her story to the tabs with Jeff supplying the background family dirt for local colour. And poor Emily Bishop had to read the lurid details at Sophie’s party. This got him dumped quickly by Sally, and this time for good.

Brian’s a UFO searcher and spent one cold night on the red rec searching for signs of life in the skies but a suddenly very fertile and broody Julie had him searching for other things.

In her pants.

I mean they were having sex al fresco.

Gary and Izzy bonded over a ceremony for Remembrance Day at the cenotaph.

Owen and Anna are still going strong but Whispering Faye still hates Owen and his stupid, whiny, pregnant, broke daughter.

Paul’s wife is getting worse. Now she’s getting violent and prone to wandering off. Eileen’s being a saint but it’s a burden for anyone to bear.

In other news, Jim, Andy, Claire, and Ashley appeared on Canada AM this week as part of their Canadian tour. You can see the interview at this link here.

  1. S. Poole says:

The guy playing Chris sure is doing a great job, he takes evil smarmy to a whole new level, well done. And go Michelle, land one on Mrs. Foster, pretty please.

re: the Corrie actors visiting Canada, would they not allow Ken Morley to travel abroad due to a criminal record perhaps? j/k, would have liked to see Reg but Jim will do, I say Jim will do.

  2. haili says:

I don’t remember Michelle being that efficient and such a go-getter for the couple of weeks she worked at Underworld. Maybe the cruise did her good! They are quick to forgive on Corrie too – look how Nick saved the day after he and Carla parted ways and were far from friendly at the time.

Chris is a nasty man and I won’t miss him if he happens to leave soon. He can take Cheryl and go far, far away.

It’s going to be a tear jerker next week if anything happens to that dog – whose name I cannot spell! Get the tissues ready.

  3. Mark Daye says:

We had the pleasure of attending the Canada AM taping and met Claire and Ashely (Julia & Stephen). They both signed my 50th Anniversary Corrie book too! They were very nice and a pleasure to meet them.

  4. Deborah says:

I also enjoyed my morning in the audience at Canada AM. I asked the first question to Steven (Ashley). If you click on my name you can see photos and a write up from the day.

Mark-Earlier someone asked me who was sitting next to my mom and dad and wondered if you had been on Corrie Crazy. I am guessing it was you. I was on that show too.

  5. eps says:

Gee, sad scene when Schmeichel was put to sleep. Katie did a nice job supporting Ches and Kirk is a good friend in need. Anna is becoming a favorite, I really like her spirit.

  6. Trudy says:

Boy Cheryl will really be in muddle once she finds out what smarmy Chris has done. I certainly do not have a good feeling about Frank and Sally. My feeling is Frank’s real personna will come out with not good results (IMO)

  7. Gayle says:

I think the young lady who plays Katie is a very good actress. Even though they are far too young to be having a baby they are a sweet couple. I loved the support that Gary and Kirk gave Chesney.

Personally I would like to see more of Kirk and Gary they are far too underused as compared to Tina and Tracey.

    • Long Time Lurker says:

I agree Gayle – certainly Gary is underused but I do like his character change to “good guy”. And to me, a good episode is one where there’s no Tracey.

Monday was a very sad episode. I’m still trying to figure out what plotline would need Schmeichel to die before his time. Is it because there will soon be a house full of babies?

      • eps says:

Generally the larger the dog the shorter the life expectancy. For Great Danes it is < 10 years. Schmeichal was an adult when Ches got him (I have forgotten, how did that happen?) so this may be realistic.

      • Bea says:

Maybe Schmeichal just wanted off the show.

      • Trudy says:

        Lolol – Bea!

      • Mary Prankster says:

According to “Corriepedia” Ches was given Schmeichel when the dog was still considered a puppy, in 2004. According to Wikipedia, the average life expectancy of Great Danes is 6 to 8 years, so when the vet kept mentioning Schmeike’s age as a factor in the decision about treatment, he was accurate. The sad thing is that Schmeichel was the most reliable relationship in Chesney’s life. All the humans haven’t stuck around.

  8. Long Time Lurker says:

Good point, Bea – maybe he’s going to do some guest episodes on Dr. Who or Law & Order UK.

And good for Lloyd for not taking Cheryl back, although my heart is breaking for him. Loved all of last night’s taxi rides away from the street. Hopefully, that will mean we’ve seen the last of Cheryl and Chris.

  9. Long Time Lurker says:

By the way, I’m not a Tweeter, but I do want to say that I’m really enjoying the CorrieCanada Tweets in the sidebar.

Just because we’re not directly responding to those wonderful tweets, doesn’t mean we don’t find them very funny and entertaining – much appreciated.

  10. eps says:

Hummm, Business dinner invitation, Maria dressed up, Frank thought she was enticing him, attempted sexual assault; invited to business dinner with Frank, Sally dresses up… doesn’t bode well.
Wasn’t Sophie the sensible daughter once upon a time? Maybe that was when she had some semblance of a life.
Wish Lloyd and Becky could be a couple.
Maybe I missed it: Wasn’t Ryan going to attend his mother’s wedding?

    • Long Time Lurker says:

Totally agree, eps – re: Frank and Sally, I posted almost the same comment, but in the Steven Harper blog – I’m not sure where to post these days.

Weren’t Lloyd and Becky a couple way back when – I seem to recall something between them a long time ago.
