Update for the Week Ending October 12.

It was another week of hell for poor Tyrone. First, Kirty’s mum shows up seeking refuge from her abusive husband. They offer to put her up in hopes she can help with the childcare, in addition to meeting her grandchild for the first time. But when Kirsty’s dad shows up and absconds with Baby Ruby, Kirsty’s mum decides to go back with her husband.

Then another argument leads to Tyrone getting struck with Ruby’s silver baby rattle. He admits to Fizz that Kirsty beats him. Eventually he declares he wants her out so Kirsty takes drastic measures and registers the baby with “father unknown,” leaving Tyrone with no rights to his child and flashing back to the news that baby Jack was not his.

Then Ty decides that the only way for him to keep Ruby is to be a stay at home dad, even though his salary is higher than Kirsty’s. Kevin is angry and Fizz knows that once again, Kirsty is alienating him from his friends and trapping him in a toxic relationship.

Lloyd got to know his newfound daughter Jenna this week when he tried to impress her with a meal at the Bistro and his bad suit which everyone thought he was wearing to court. He was relieved to learn that she was a pie and chips kind of gal so they retired to the Rovers. Jenna had a few and wrote “BEST PUB EVER!!!” on Gloria’s comment cards for the pub contest. The next day it was a cheese and pickle sandwich lunch at his place when Mandy barged in, claiming Jenna had walked out after an argument. When Jenna emerged from the bedroom, there were harsh words but I think these three are going to work it out.

And Lloyd’s old photo with the side burns was a hoot. Who knew Lloyd was a teddy boy back in the day?

It was hair curlers at dawn when Michelle and Tracy had a go over Ryan. The highlight was Dennis declaring “Times like this remind me of my mother.”

After getting Ken elected to the Bessie Street school board of governors and learning that his ex-flame Wendy Papadopolous (née Crozier) was also on the board, Brian did some odd manipulation to get the two in the same room when Ken offered to resign. Not sure what Brian’s stake is in this. He seems a little too into Ken and Wendy’s 20 year old affair. But between that and Julie’s inappropriate for work description of her dreams, I think these two have an interior life that one would not wish to examine too closely.

Mary won a trip for two to a transatlantic destination of her choice. While Norris angles for the spare ticket, Mary offers it to Roy and Hayley so they can visit his mum in Palm Springs. Oh, Norris. You had your chance.

Maria found a lump in her breast. Ever the empathetic friend, Marcus accompanied her to the doctor where she learned that the results were inconclusive.

Brian needs to keep his neb out of Ken’s business.
The Curler conflict was a bit of a non-starter. They didn’t even rip a curler out of each other’s hair. it was just a bit of pushing and hollering. I expected better. Dennis’ remark about his mother was the best thing about it!

Brian does seem creepily interested in the old affair. Funny, I remember it well – and Ken still has the same slightly sneaky look about him when he’s lying about where he’s been.
I am getting heartily sick of Michelle, Tracy and Ryan. I wasn’t a huge fan of the old Ryan, but at least he was somewhat believable – this one is difficult to understand and so stupid he doesn’t even realize what Tracy is up to – and she’s as obvious as she always is. The fight was too contrived – and what were they both doing in the salon getting their hair curled. Has Michelle ever had anything other than straight shiny shiny black hair?
The actress who plays Kirsty is incredible!

I’m starting to warm to Mary a bit. I think it’s the Roy and Haley effect. The people they befriend (e.g., Fiz, Becky) seem to change for the better.

    • S. Poole says:

Same here, Mary is not so OTT since her talk with Haley…. without Royston and Hales there is likely no Fiz on the street, although she did try to get them into trouble with the child services folks way back when.

Poor, poor, poor Ty, his mother is a nightmare and seems to be reflected in his luck with women, he needs some good vibes, writers must hate the character.

Not buying Uncle St. Nick, he just seems to be so smarmy all the time, perhaps changing the actor was what did it, although I was not a fan of the last Nicky, as wooden as they come.

  3. S. Poole says:

Oh and the old pics of Lloyd were the best, he was such a cool dude!

  4. Gayle says:

I also find Brian creepy and stupid. As for Ryan and Tracey – sickening to say the least. How hard up is he to date a murderer. Where’s Amy these days we never see her? I could never understand why the powers that be – brought Tracy back. No one likes her on the street or the fans watching at home. She has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I really, really hope that Ken does not have another affair I won’t be able to handle Diedre’s screeching.

Apropos to nothing…does anyone know if Fiz still has her scooter?

    • Wild Rover says:

According to Corriepedia, Sophie Webster vandalised the scooter in 2007 (was it really that long ago). I don`t recall Fiz riding it after that.

      • lovethestreet says:

Thanks. I have really been enjoying Fiz in her scenes lately…and that got me to thinking how much I used to enjoy the days when she was riding around on her scooter and kept bumping into things…

  6. Bea says:

Maybe Marcus is bisexual. Or Maria has super powers. Either way, it could get complicated very soon. lol

  7. Bea says:

Also, where is little Liam these days? You hardly ever see him with Maria. Kirk and Marcus do a lot of child caring, and there is the day care or whatever they call it. But, where is he when everyone is in the pub, etc. Oh, I know, in the dryer with Amy. At least she has company now. lol

  8. lovethestreet says:

Just watched tonight’s episode, and I don’t think I’ve ever liked Rita more!

    • barbee says:

She was wonderful wasn’t she? What a great friend to Diedre, and really, she knows Ken and his weakness for the ladies more than almost anyone.
I actually sympathized with Michelle tonight when she told Sally to shut it – she can be so patronising and irritating. And just where is Rosie again???

      • eps says:

Rosie went to London to seek her fortune. What a waste – sending her to that expensive private school.
