 As Tears Go By

A grey morning unfolds as Maria takes Ozzie for a walk, looking disoriented and exhausted. She is in fresh tears because Ozzie is looking for Liam. Audrey ushers her back inside.

At Eyeball Manor, Carla emerges from the bedroom, looking haggard and yellowish. Tony, rather more fresh, has donned the usual purple button-down and wants to go to work. Seeing his fiancée is under the weather, he offers to hang out at home, but Carla wants none of him. She also doesn’t have it in her to go see Maria later, but Tony insists.

Audrey shows Kirk and Julie in to Maria’s. Kirk tells his sister that their parents are on their way. Maria sobs afresh that Liam never knew about the baby.

Michelle and Tom are talking in back of the Rovers. Tom is trying to explain the dynamics of the accident when Ryan wakes up. Ryan is worried the driver will get away with it because Liam was drunk. Ryan vows to find the driver. The Conners might be better advised to avoid automobiles in general. Incredibly somehow, this event has turned out not to be All About Michelle.

Carla and Tony have come reluctantly to Maria’s. No idea why Tony is forcing this visit. Perhaps he hopes to cure his fiancée of her misplaced affections by showing her how undone Liam’s wife actually is. Or maybe he just wants to gloat.

Audrey has made tea for Maria’s visitors. Maria and Carla sit side-by-side in tears. Tony wants to know if there is any news of the car. Carla tells him to shaddap, more or less. He then offers to make the funeral arrangements. Audrey interrupts and reminds Tony that Liam’s parents will assist Maria. Tony tells Maria that Liam could have had any woman in the world, but he picked the right one. He looks pointedly at Carla.

Later Eyeball has a clandestine in-car meeting with his slimy bald henchman, whose name, I think, is Jimmy. It appears we have found Liam’s killer, as Baldy Jimmy tells Tony he can still hear the impact of the car smacking Liam. He is worried about being caught; Tony assures him this won’t happen, and hands him a thick wad of cash – might some of this be the kitty money? In which case, Liam collected the money to pay his own hitman. Baldy Jimmy wants to know if Tony will still marry Carla. Tony says yes, to ensure he has the last laugh on Liam Conner, he will do so.

Get Off My Cloud

Leanne raps on Dan’s door, to pick up her bits and pieces. Kelly answers the door, apparently having ravished Boy Bookie the previous evening. Leanne seems put off, but not too. Kelly hands her only a small box of belongings, saying Dan has given the rest to charity and it’s time Leanne gave something away instead of selling it.

Under My Thumb

Kevin and Sophie are in the Webster kitchen as Sally & Bill return from Wales. Sophie tells her mom about the threatening postcard. The police thinks it’s a hoax, Kevin reassures Sally. Sally wants to keep Soph off school. Bill offers to take her. “Make sure your teachers are aware,” Sally instructs Sophie. Oh, the irony.

As Sophie and Chesney leave for school, Stape is out front sporting three red gashes on his face. Granny’s pussycat must be a lynx or sommat. Sally asks Chesney to stick close to Sophie at school to keep her safe. Chesney agrees although notes he isn’t much of a fighter. Stape offers to pick them up from school. Noooooooo….

As promised, Stape picks up the kids from school, chatting with them. He asks Sophie about the differences in the two postcards. Stape points out that Soph is now the centre of attention. Soph says she’d rather not be although her pleased face expresses differently.

Some time later, Stape arrives home to Granny’s house, as a light rain falls. Once inside, he unlocks an interior door, and there is Rosie…Surprise! Not.

What is rather surprising is that Rosie has not lost any of her bossiness. She gives Stape shit for being late bringing her her dinner, and that she is starving. Imprisoned but undaunted, it would seem.

I Can’t Get No (Satisfaction)

Molly sees Amber arriving for work at Dev’s shop and asks if Darryl’s kebab saw any action. Amber explains that “D & T” crashed the party, so no jiggy.

Later as they work, Molly cautions Amber not to feel she has to give in to Darryl. Amber assures her that Darryl is totally into letting her set the pace. Waiting for sex, as opposed to actual sex, is still a step up from talking to a giant hunk of revolving lamb because you think it is stalking you. Tara Mandel breezes into the shop with documents for Dev. Dev kinda blows her off, fearful, we assume, of Nina’s not-so-veiled threats to expose him. After she leaves, Molly and Amber accused Dev of blanking Tara, who obviously likes him. Dev follows Tara outside and apologizes for being brusque – he says he’s a bit out of it as a good friend was just killed.

In Other News

In the Kabin, Norris presents Rita with a porcelain tea set to say thanks for holding the fort. Rita is dreading Liam’s funeral; she says no one had a bad word to say about him. Tina imagines she wants a funeral with everyone wearing white and carrying a sunflower. There is a time for grief, Norris opines, saying that he would mourn the loss of Rita. Tina observes that Norris may still have a crush on Rita. Norris then tries to discontinue Tina’s employment as he has now returned. Neither Rita nor Tina take any notice.

Sally is put out because no one on the Street is talking about Rosie, only some dead guy named Liam.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…why the HELL would the Websters let the guy whom their MISSING daughter accused of trying to kidnap her, be Sophie’s chauffeur.

You don’t even have to go to the ‘I think John did it’ place…you just need to use some common sense and precaution.

    • corrierules says:

I found that scene where Stape and Sally profess their friendship to be cringe-inducing. Oh thank you John for cheating on my colleague with my teenage daughter, instead of with, me, me, me when I offered it to you on a plate. Oh yes and thanks for pressing charges against my husband so that he ended up in jail. “That’s what friends are for,” says John.

And my vote in the love Liam or hate him poll? It’s a bit of both. I liked the character when he was this good-natured Jack-the-lad. He was funny, cute, likable. But once he got involved with Carla, he became selfish, mean and, as they say on the Street, schtewpid.

  2. missusmac says:

John, who oddly enough showed no signs of the three scratches when picking Sophie and Ches up, seems to have tumbled to the fact Sophie benefits greatly from the postcard `threat`…

Can I just say that reading updates like this — did Darryl`s kebab get action? hahahahahaha! — is why this site is so freakin` terrific!

Kunzie, thank you! And don`t be fooled. It will eventually be All About Michelle. It always is.

  3. Piper77 says:

I don’t think John has kidnapped Rosie. I think she went to him after being rejected and humiliated by Tony. This is just her way of controlling John and punishing her parents. I think she’s got John under her thumb again and he is doing everything she says.

  4. elocin says:

First can i just say – OH SNAP! Shit got goooood!

I think you’re on to something Piper. I think there’s more to the Rosie with John story than a simple kidnapping. If they expect me to believe that he could keep Rosie in that room without her getting out they’re going to be sadly disappointed (and so will I).

I didn’t know Liam was going to die, although I knew Tony was up to something. Another thread was asking if we’d miss Liam and I can say that while I didn’t mind his character and I thought he and Carla were good together, I’m happy to sacrifice him for the sake of some good old fashioned drama. Yay!

  5. haili says:

If it brings on good drama, I say we sacrifice Michelle too. She’s been pretty good so far but it will be all about her soon no doubt.
Tony’s having a good time saying all the things that will upset Carla, like telling Maria how much Liam loved her and telling Carla they should be there to support Maria. He loves to twist the knife!

I too wondered how Rosie ended up in John’s attic but she is locked in so it can’t be her choice. I just wonder how she got there and hope we find out soon. The Websters trusting John so much doesn’t ring true either after all his deception over the affair with Rosie.

    • corrierules says:

I agree: for the sake of a good story-line I would be willing to throw Michelle under the bus. She can take Ryan with her, Tom as well and Dan the bookie. Byeee! Here’s yer hat, what’s yer hurry?

  6. corrieheart says:

    Hi all,

yes I agree with Haili and Piper77, there’s definitely more to the Rosie lockup than meets the eye(ball). Also, not that i want to encourage John Stapes in any way, but couldn’t he simply leave a bag of custard creams or hobnobs in Rosie’s room to ward off hunger? If wanted to get fancy, he could even buy one of those automatic cat feeding machines ($17.00 at Canadian Tire)and fill it with Maltesers or M&Ms (I’m sure Rosie would get the hang of it eventually)- thus avoiding the hassle of constantly having to go to his gran’s house to “feed the cat”.

  7. haili says:

LOL. corrieheart – you have a practical streak! But how is he going to get out of this one – short of murder? If I was Rosie, I’d belt him over the head with something and run or tie sheets together and go out the window. I can’t imagine a young person staying in that room when it has a window. There must be some way out.

  8. Bea says:

“Where have you been, I’m starving” Isn’t that exactly what a cat would say if it could talk?

  9. missusmac says:

I don’t think there’s a window, just a skylight based on Thursday’s show. Sally must be highly medicated, don’t you think? How else to explain her gratitude to John?

  10. S. Poole says:

    Crackin’ update!

Rosie needs to clock John with a heavy object (was all for a book then noticed they are paperbacks only, smart move, John!) or disable him with a well placed kick to the nether regions, that would allow her enough time to figure a way outside.

Its a little creepy the hostage room is the same one Stape showed Fizz after Gran’s funeral, filling her in with his warm fuzzy memories of staying there.

LOL at Rosie whining for Hobnobs, great nutrition there, girl, along with the crisps dumped out of the Freshco bag tonight.

Still loving Tony, he is approaching Allan Bradley/Richard Hillman in villainocity.

  11. Rory says:

I liked Liam. I’m sorry to see him go. He’s quite hunky. Though so is Tony. And I agree you, S. Poole, Tony’s great. He’s pure evil!! The roadkill remark was really low! LOL.

  12. Gayle says:

Corrierules and Beanie: I agree with your comments concerning Sally and being chummy again with Stape. Does she still have the hots for him? There is absolutely no reason for him to be driving Sophie around.
Why can’t Sally, Kevin, Bill or Tyrone do it? Sally doesn’t seem to be going to work these days.

  13. Debbie says:

What I don’t understand is who has an attic apartment that locks from the outside?
That is weird. It is like holding someone captive was in the original concept for the house.

    • fondue123 says:

I guess we could surmise that John has been planning something like this for some time, at least for long enough to have installed a lock on the outside of that door. It all reminds me of The Collector by John Fowles. So creepy.

  14. haili says:

It is a skylight after all – too bad. Good point about Sally being nice to John. They should all still be ignoring him at least after he had Kevin charged and sent to jail that time. I’ll bet Rosie could outrun John if she could just lure him to the other side of the room, then sprint for the door. It really is weird that it locks from the outside. Maybe John was locked in there as a kid and that’s what made him so strange!

  15. Barbie says:

I think Rosie is a horrible, horrible person. The concept that he would actually kill her to get out of this situation doesn’t seem to have entered her mind at all. I’d gladly sacrifice her for the drama.
And you’re right Kunzie, those Conners really shouldn’t go anywhere near an automobile, ever.

  16. haili says:

I was watching Annie Hall the other night and thought Rosie looks a lot like the young Diane Keaton. Let’s hope that Rosie has some redeeming qualities, when and if she gets out. She has a lot of making up to do with her parents.

  17. fondue123 says:

Funniest line for me this week: John brings Rosie some supplies in that Freshco’s bag, hands her a magazine. “Against my better judgement, I’ve brought you a celebrity magazine”, he says. Then she flings it down in utter disgust and frustration. Honestly, I just about fell off my chair laffing. That and the fact that he brought her some vitamin D, as he’s concerned about the lack of sunshine…yes, you are a psycho, John.

  18. missusmac says:

Most of the dialogue between John and Rosie is pretty rich. Some great lines, said very well acted. Rosie is so completely self-centered, it’s a thing of beauty to behold

  19. fondue123 says:

I’ve actually been impressed with the actress playing Rosie, at least when she’s being angry, or stroppy, or nasty to John…she’s delivering those lines with admirable comic timing. I don’t think she does so well with anything requiring nuance though. Oh well, can’t have it all, and she’s certainly entertaining just at the moment.

  20. haili says:

I’m kind of liking Rosie too and hope she finally got away from him tonight. Don’t know why it took her so long but he’s in for a big struggle if he thinks he can get her back up those stairs.

As far as pin numbers go, if it has to be written down, it should be hidden in a fake address or something. I thought she almost had him talked into letting her out to the ATM.

  21. missusmac says:

On a side note, who has Liam’s phone? Did he still have it when he died or does Tony have that too? (We only saw Tony throw the wallet away, right?)

There were an awful lot of texts between Liam and Carla during the stag/stagette day — and if Maria gets the cell back as part of his belongings, and checks it out, there is gonna be fireworks.

  22. CAPT PAT says:

Why, when, and where did Stapes kidnap Rosie, I missed it completely?? WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF HER BEING LOCKED UP BUT, CO-OPERATING WITH HIM??Is he going to ”off” her?? Enlighten me pleases!!!!

    • fondue123 says:

It’s hard to know what’s really going on in John’s head at the moment. All I know is Rosie needs to realize he might decide his only option is to get rid of her. I’m glad to see her finally taking a chance to run.
While John’s obviously having a major meltdown, I don’t think he’s a true psychopath. I think he made a stupid decision on the spur of the moment, and now can’t see his way out. Of course, this is where John shows himself to be a sociopath; having done the wrong thing, a really BAD thing, it doesn’t occur to him that his only real option is to let her go and face the music. He’s still scrambling to find some magical way out that will leave him unscathed and happy with Fizz. Dream on, I say.

  23. haili says:

Good point about the phone. Maybe we’re supposed to think it got broken in the accident and maybe it did. It could get complicated later.

We never saw Stapes kidnap Rosie and it’s hard to believe she would get into that cab again after he locked her in and lectured her last time. I think he or she said he pushed her into the cab, but wouldn’t she go out the other door? And how would he get her up those stairs to lock her in the attic? She could probably outrun him since he doesn’t look like much of an athlete.

  24. Diane/tvor says:

Yeah, how did Stape even get Rosie out of the taxi, into the house and up all those stairs in the first place? he’s not that strong, i shouldn’t think and if it was spur of the moment, he’d hardly have a knife or gun.

What i want to know is….Fiz stayed at the house after Gran’s funeral for a couple of days. If there was a cat, she’d have seen it then. And who fed it between Gran’s death and when Stape piled Rosie in there and how has to “feed the cat”. If there wasn’t one, which there is not obviously, why does she obviously think there is one when it wouldn’t have been there when she was there?
